MacBook Screen Replacement in Berkeley: Real 2026 Prices by Model

If you cracked the display on a MacBook Air or Pro in the East Bay, the honest range is $269 to $479 for the common models we replace most — a 2020 Air M1 screen is $380, a 2022 Air M2 is $479 — and anything newer or unusual starts with an $89 diagnostic so we quote a real number instead of a guess. We're on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley, a short walk from the UC Berkeley campus, and most screen jobs are same-day or next-day by appointment when the panel is in stock and the schedule allows. Final price is confirmed at drop-off before any work begins.

The reason we can lead with a price is that we replace these panels every week. Since January 2025 the 13-inch Air M1 has been our most-replaced MacBook screen — 18 jobs and counting — with the 13-inch Pro A2338 and the Air M2 close behind. Familiar hardware means a known part cost and a known bench time, which is why our quote is a number and Apple's is a range.

Screen replacement prices by model

These are the models we quote up front. Prices are as of August 2026, cover the display and the labor to fit it, and get confirmed at drop-off once we've inspected the machine.

MacBook modelScreen replacement
MacBook Air 13" 2015–2017$269
MacBook Pro Retina 13" (A1502)$289
MacBook Air 13" M1 2020$380
MacBook Air Retina 13" 2018–2019$449
MacBook Air Retina 13" 2020$449
MacBook Pro 13" A2338 (M1 2020 / M2 2022)$449
MacBook Air 13" M2 2022$479
MacBook Pro 16" 2023 (M2 Pro / M2 Max)$709

Two notes on that table. First, the model matters more than the year on the lid — a 2020 could be an Intel Air, an M1 Air, or a Pro, and each has a different panel. Bring the machine or read us the model identifier from Apple menu → About This Mac and we'll match it exactly. Second, if your MacBook is a 14-inch or 16-inch Pro from 2021 or later, or an M3/M4 Air (including the 15-inch), we quote the screen at diagnosis rather than off a table — those panels and their pricing move enough that a printed number would be a guess. That path starts with the $89 diagnostic or a custom repair request.

Why our quote is a number and Apple's is a range

Take a MacBook Air to the Apple Store with a cracked display and you'll be quoted for the whole display assembly — Apple doesn't replace the glass or the panel on its own, it swaps the lid as a unit. Owners report out-of-warranty display quotes for recent Airs in the mid-$400s to low $500s, and $500 to $700 on other models, depending on the model and what else the diagnosis turns up, plus tax. The number isn't fixed until a technician has the machine, which is why it comes to you as a spread.

AppleCare+ can put a lower service fee on the first line of the comparison, but price alone does not tell you how long you will be without the laptop or whether service will preserve the exact machine and its data. Apple's own U.S. repair terms say data loss is always possible and do not guarantee repair or replacement without loss of programs or data. Our value is local and time-sensitive: your MacBook comes to our Telegraph Avenue bench, we replace the display on your machine, and many stocked-screen jobs go back the same day or next day by appointment. For a student facing a deadline, that turnaround can matter more than a modest covered-price difference.

Is it worth fixing? A resale-value gut check

A screen repair is worth doing when the fixed machine is worth more than what you'd pay to fix it. Two of our common models make that math easy in 2026:

  • MacBook Air M1 2020. Used ones in good condition typically sell in the $400–$550 range, higher with more RAM and storage. A $380 screen brings a $0 cracked machine back to that value, and the M1 is still fast enough for coursework, code, and light video for years yet.
  • MacBook Air M2 2022. These typically resell around $550–$750 depending on config. A $479 screen is a clear keep.

The framework holds down the line: if the repair is well under the used value and the rest of the machine is healthy, fix it. If you've got a 2015 Air with a swollen battery and a dying port and the screen is only the newest problem, that's a conversation worth having before you spend, and we'll give you a straight read.

A note on True Tone and panel matching

There's a real technical caveat worth knowing. On M1 and newer MacBooks, True Tone calibration data is paired to the original display and the machine, so a display swap can disable True Tone unless the replacement is calibrated to the machine. On Intel Airs and Pros, the panels aren't serialized, so True Tone behaves normally after a swap. We explain the available part grade and price before you approve the work, and we don't represent an aftermarket part as an original Apple part — the same standard laid out in our FAQ.

Students: Telegraph Ave, a short walk from campus

Our shop sits on Telegraph, minutes from the UC Berkeley campus, which matters when a cracked screen lands the week before problem sets are due. If you're coming from campus or the dorms, you can drop the machine, get a firm quote, and often pick it up the same day or next day when the panel's in stock. Fall semester is when we see the most laptop screen intake, so if you're reading this in August or September, book the appointment before the rush rather than after. The Berkeley repairs page has the device picker and current openings.

FAQ

Do you use original or aftermarket screens?

Part options vary by model and what's available. We tell you the part grade and the price before you approve the repair, and we never pass an aftermarket panel off as an original Apple part. If a specific model only has one credible option, we'll say so up front. That policy is written into our FAQ.

Is my data safe during a screen replacement?

A display swap doesn't touch your storage, so in normal cases your files are untouched. That said, no repair process can guarantee against data loss, so back up before any service if you can. If the machine won't boot to let you back up, tell us — we handle data-first recovery and treat your files as the most important component in the device.

How fast can I get my MacBook screen fixed?

When the panel for your model is in stock and a technician is free, many screen jobs are same-day or next-day by appointment. Newer models we haven't stocked may need a part ordered first, which is one reason we quote those at diagnosis. Booking an appointment lets us reserve the part and the bench time.

What if the hinge or the whole lid is bent, not just cracked glass?

A bent lid or damaged hinge is a bigger job than a flat cracked panel, and it can change the part and the price. Apple treats enclosure and hinge damage as a higher accidental-damage tier too. Bring it in for the $89 diagnostic and we'll tell you exactly what the lid needs before you commit to anything.
